Subject:temporary housing/shelters?
Security:Public

I know someone from out west who came back to Hamilton for a funeral, but is considering staying here longterm and working. He's staying with family but cannot really stay past Jan 6 and would need a place to stay between then and Feb 1.

Just wondering if anyone is familiar with Hamilton-area shelters or places offering temporary housing (or a cheap motel - or something) for someone for about 3.5 weeks, that are safe?

Thx and happy new year! :)

Subject:Part time work: Transcription? Respite Care?
Security:Public

I recently moved out on my own and am kind of broke.
I'm looking into getting a part time job. I'm a teacher so it would have to be on evenings and weekends. I am kind of picky though, because it can't be too demanding or stressful and take away from my full-time job, and I also have other things I'm committed to (volunteering).
What would be ideal is something flexible where you can work from home - such as transcription (I type very fast!). A friend of mine did this before. Does anyone know of transcription places that may be hiring part time?
Another thing I'm looking into is respite care. I know an organization that hired for this in Guelph, but I haven't lived in Hamilton a long time so am not familiar with what is here.
Or if you have any other ideas feel free to throw them my way.
Thanks. :)

So anyone out there bake or know of any good bakeries? Specifically ones who have sourdough starter and are down for sharing it with someone who's getting into baking again? I promise to repay with gratitude and bread.

Subject:Red Light Camera Ticket
Security:Public

Does anyone have experience with red light camera tickets?
I got my first and it's a whopping $325.

(This is on Cannon/Hess if you want to avoid my horrible luck)

There are the three options...
-paying it
-pleading not guilty
-plea of guilty - submissions as to penalty (amount of fine or time to pay)

I am guessing that pleading not guilty is not successful as they have photos (which were included in the letter they mailed me).

I am probably going to go to court with a plea of guilty and hope to reduce the fine and/or the time to pay.

Anyone have experience with this and can give me some advice or information as to the outcome?

A webseries filmed in and around Hamilton is seeking young actors and actresses. We're especially anxious to find Middle Eastern actresses, as we haven't got any auditioning so far, and we DESPERATELY need one.

Auditions will be held at the Dalewood Recreation Centre on Tuesday May 25th from 4-6 P.M. RSVP to the Facebook page, or contact lauramcvey@yahoo.ca for more information.

Hey guys...

Does anyone know of gyms in Hamilton that have free month trials?

I am hoping I can find 12 of them and get a free year, hahah.

Also, does anyone know of cheap/free yoga or pilates? Or other fitness classes for that matter? I really enjoy fitness classes (more than using gym equipment but I'll take it for free haha)

I want to get in shape but have no money and a lot of student debt.

Thanks!

Subject:Anyone want/have a P.O. Box?
Security:Public

This is probably an odd post but I thought I'd try.

I'm a student moving to Hamilton in the fall for teacher's college. I want a P.O. Box (pay for mail delivered to the post office) due to my hobby of penpalling. I write to some people in jails so want to protect my privacy for obvious reasons.

It's about $15/month, which I am willing to pay. But at the same time, everything adds up, and I am a poor student and always looking for ways to save money. I was wondering if anyone either:

1) Has a P.O. Box and is willing to let me use it and I pitch in and give you money (win-win situation), or;
2) Wants a P.O. Box and can share with me, giving me some money for it.

I know, bizarre request, but whatevs...

Thanks! :)

Hello!
I'm a recent grad from the Applied Cosmetics/Aesthetics program @ Mohawk, and would love to add to my portfolio by doing face painting for children's birthday parties!
If possible, a week (or 1/2) advanced notice would be super, so I can organize my gear.
My rate is $5/child and I can do a variety of super heroes, animals, and more.

I am also an amateur artist, and would like to offer room painting/murals for children too! I'm able to do many Disney/Movie characters, animals, dinosaurs, etc. All paintings are done with Acrylic paints. I first sketch the art with chalk, then after approval, I re-sketch with pencil and then paint. I charge $10/hour for this service.
I am more then happy to send interested applicants some samples of commissioned artwork!

Edit : X-posted, of course ;) Need to pay off school stuff!  Oh I can also do make up applications! Email me!

These guys have been at the shelter since October :( They are not in danger but would really like to go to those special homes soon! Crossposting is welcome and greatly appreciated.

"Koda" is a VERY intensely toy-driven brindle and black neutered male GSD mix who is about two years old. He is a very bright, VERY active and playful fellow who needs just needs a "job" to channel his energy into. He loves going for long walks with the volunteers and would make a great pet for someone who loves to go hiking and willing to take him to obedience classes. In addition to being very toy driven, he loves food! This friendly, frisky guy was originally from the Timmins Humane Society.

"Hydro" is an approximately two year old neutered male GSD/Border Collie mix. Like "Koda" , this handsome, furry boy is a very highly active dog who has a very bright mind. He is a very outgoing dog but can play rough and will need an owner who can channel his energy into something positive. No doubt, being involved in a canine sport or two would delight him. He is originally from the Timmins Humane Society.

"Tyke" is a real character. He is an approximately two year old neutered male Shepherd mix with perhaps some husky in there. Tyke is a very friendly, agile dog who could very possibly make a superb candidate for Agilty. He is often spotted standing on the divider of his kennel; if you can't spot him in his kennel, look up! He has the potential for being a canine Houdini, but providing his would be owner keeps on top of this and will work on his obedience , he will make a great companion. He was originally from the Timmins Humane Society.

"Wrigley" is a one year old spayed female black and white Lab mix. She has not been at the shelter for as long as "Tyke", "Hydro" or "Koda" but I would really like to see her go to a new home soon -- and as she has been returned a few times, the right, PERMANENT home. She is a very sweet dog who loves going for walks but also enjoy spending quality, quiet time with whomever is giving her attention.

Information and pictures of these dogs (can be found at the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA's site:

Mood: good

Attention everybody in the Hamilton area!

This message is to let you guys know that a friend and I are trying to get a salsa night up and going in the city on Sundays. It's been weird not having any place to dance on a Sunday since Las Brisas closed down last fall.

So, if anybody is interested, whether you've danced before or not, here are the details below:

Where: The Oakwood Place (1067 Barton Street East, just west of Ottawa St. near the Centre Mall)

When: Every Sunday night. Lesson 9-10, dancing 10-close

Cost: Nothing but your drinks!

It's going to be a typical latin night which will feature salsa, bachata, merengue and cha cha. If you want to give it a try, it would be a good idea to plan on making it to the lesson at 9:00.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. :-)

I hope to see you there!
